Halal labels on packaged food: what a barcode can and cannot tell you
Nutriguide can flag products that are likely to conflict with a Halal preference. That is useful in a busy aisle. It is not a substitute for reading the pack or trusting a certification mark you recognize.
What the app checks
When you set Halal in onboarding or Profile, scans highlight ingredients and labels that often indicate animal-derived additives, alcohol, or missing Halal certification data. Guest preferences stay on the device until you sign in.
What you should still confirm
- A recognized Halal mark from a body you trust
- The ingredient list, including E-numbers and flavorings
- “May contain” lines if cross-contact matters to you
A practical store habit
Scan first. If Nutriguide raises a flag, put the item back or read the label slowly. If it looks clear, still glance at certification — especially for meat, gelatin, enzymes, and flavors.
Nutriguide is free. Diet alerts are the reason to keep scanning, not a religious ruling.
